Introduce your elderly parents to these activities.

Have you considered ways to create more fun or to ease boredom from your aging parents? 

When you have an aging parent who gets care from your home, you might consider engaging in activities to improve the quality of their days, and even create memories to preserve for the future. The activities can be indoor activities or outdoor activities, they should be able to create ease and fun for them. 

Strenuous activities are generally not advised in order to avoid health complications.

These activities can be done indoors and if you cannot engage with them consider having a caregiver support you. 

  1. Create a bucket list of things with them : A bucket list is a comprehensive list of different  things one can set out to do at any given time. So before you map out a list of activities you have in mind, consider creating a bucket list with your aging parent, ask them what activity they would like to do, collect their suggestions, make some suggestions also and add them on a bucket list. With that, you have created a versatile list of activities they can participate in. 
  1. Provide music therapy : Music therapy helps to revitalise the health and memory span of elderly parents. Music therapies would create experiences that are social, enjoyable and improve the abilities of parents. Asides the enjoyability of music, parents are liable to discover more about the elements of music. Search and hire a music therapist who can help you out for optimization.

  1. Start a documentary: Documentaries are a great way to remember your aging parents. Take pictures of them, suggest to them to record their voices of them saying different things and collate the pieces of the documented works to become a documentary of them. While you intentionally create a documentary, you provide a catalogue of memories to always look back on for your family. 
  1. Play board games: Board games are one way to relax while at home with your aging parents, you could organise a family bonding moment, where everyone plays and this brings an enjoyable time with your family. With games the nerves are relaxed, there are conscious actions being taken, it enhances the memory function and helps with decision making while playing.
  1. Taking care of a plant: Aging parents are mostly cared for, you can give them a new sense of responsibility, by getting them plants that they can care for also. This could be a way for them to feel less dependent on everything, as they have a new way to care for something else.  

Build the thrill of living in the home with your aging parents and simultaneously create an experience for them while in the home.
